It was on 9th May 2001 when St John Paul II declared Fr George Preca Blessed. It was Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI who later canonized Fr George Preca on 3rd June 2012 but retained the date of 9th May as the feast day of St George Preca.
Thus on Tuesday 9th, besides the Eucharistic Celebration we decided to organize a full-day of special events for our students which consisted of twenty different workshops, all of which are not part of our daily curriculum.
At 08:00 we all gathered for Mass, at the School Hall. The school band together with a number of students from different forms and guided by two teachers, prepared the readings, songs, music and feature about the canonization of St George Preca.
After a short break, the students headed to start the first of four one-hour workshops held in classrooms, Science, Computer and Food Labs, Gymnasium and Halls. Between the second and the third session, everyone gathered to eat baked macaroni and an ice-cream, freely provided by the school.
The following where the themes that were dealt with during the workshops: Audio sample mixing, Bottle flip Trends, Braille, Dessert cooking, Kites, Georgy 3D Keychains, Information about the Mafia, Language hunt, Maltese birds, Logic Games, Maths Games, Pawn Challenge, Photo Bomb, Photo Hunt, Science is fun, SDC Missions, Rakkonti ta’ ċajt, Table tennis and History of Second World War.
It wasn’t an easy job for the coordinating team to organize the event and to assign to each student the preferred workshop. As the day progressed, all the teachers and students were happy with the event and the whole school was vibrant with activities.
