On the 9th of May, the entire Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St George Preca, Founder of the SDC - M.U.S.E.U.M. It is very obvious therefore that as a school, we celebrate this day with Mass, followed by a special programme.
At 09:30, just after the third lesson, we all gathered in the school main hall to celebrate Eucharist together. Just before Mass, three students animated a pseudo TV talk show imagining that the presenter had the opportunity of interviewing Dun {or[ and Eugene Borg from heaven! The script was intended to pass on some historical facts about the Founder and the first SDC member and also to give convey to the students the heart of Fr Preca's values and teachings. This was supported during Mass, when for a number of times the main celebrant, Fr Charles Cordina, paused to read what Dun {or[ wrote about Mass, about the priest, the Holy Eucharist, the Our Father and the scriptures we find in the Bible.
The way the priest animated Mass was really appreciated by both staff and students and his message during the homily really did hit home. Fr Cordina spoke about the desire that we all look smart, wearing labelled clothes and making use of the latest Hi-Tech available. Yet it will be a real pity if while we strove to be smart on the outside, while lacking real substance on the inside. The word on which he played his pun was: quality. Thus, what really matters is not the quality of goods one owns, but the quality of life one leads. Fr Charles stressed that Dun {or[ was a man who understood this very clearly and was prepared to lead a life designed not on things that fade by time but on those that last because they are eternal.
At the end of his homily, Fr Cordina shared with the students a message that Pope Benedict XVI gave to British student during his visit in the UK. The Pope urged the young people to aspire for sanctity asking them a very simple question: Would you like to lead a holy life? Would you like to become saints? Fr Cordina, invited us to ponder on this question and not to shy away from giving an answer.
After Mass everyone was invited to go to the school garden to continue the celebration with some food and drink in our school garden
The day's activity continued with a quiz.
